Now this is Cool !

Before I start my bit on Google desktop search I gotta thank some of the thoughtful people who took time to give me comments. As usual I don’t want to mention names but you guys know who you are. Thanks again.

What is it with my fiancée and me on Thursdays? Last night I noticed a pattern in our daily life. I don’t know for what reason we tend to attract coarse people. I’m serious! You always hear me ranting about shit heads in the cinema every Thursday right? But yesterday we didn’t catch a movie at all. Here we are in our usual diner place at Hartamas Square and suddenly there s this family sitting behind us. Its not that the place is packed but for the love of god they decided to sit behind us! Ok I know its an open area and its quite unfair for me to complain. However this @!#%$#% (I don’t want to use the B term cause this women is a mother) was speaking so loud practically everyone in HS can hear her. And there we were sitting gingerly in front of them. She basically didn’t speak, it was more like shouting. Either her thermostat is forked up or she thinks her noise level is in the acceptable range. I can understand that HS is an open place and you go there with your family to have a good time. Maybe you would say if I had wanted some peace and quite I should have gone to a wine and dine restaurant where people would be more discrete. But she was way too loud. Lady please, don’t shout! I don’t know I m cursing her or the fact that we were fortunate enough to sit in front of them. Smack in front of them ok. Her mouth was equivalent to a big ass speaker at a rock concert ok. So her output was nicely directed towards our ears. See how lucky we are on Thursday.

Ok la I don’t want to whine on the first day of Ramadhan not so nice la kan. Speaking about Ramadhan my friends and I have been planning to buka puasa ever since yesterday. Mind you yesterday we’ve not even started fasting. You see we have this mailing list where we call it Buletin so and so that yours truly started. So everyday, our group will be keeping in touch using email. What’s more interesting is the fact that the discussion is actually a continuation of last years Ramadhan buka puasa plan. Which didn’t happen at all. I shit you not. So this year it ll be interesting to see if we manage to execute the plan. At the helm organizing this year’s buka puasa gathering is a friend of mine who is about to get married. Haha as he is busy to plan for his own wedding we elected him to organize this gathering. It ll be interesting to see if he can pull it off. Buddy I know you can! You guys may think its easy to organize it but with our circle of friends its different. Main issues would be where, budget and of course the date. All 3 can be painfully hard to decide. Of course among other aspects to put into consideration would be the eye candy quality. Yea la the eyes need to buka also what.

Ok another Google buzz!
Ok this is another cool thing that google has manage to do. I know its still in Beta stage but I ve been trying it out and its frigging coll and not to mention lighting fast. All this on a web based application. Installing it is breeze sweet huh. According to my boss current Google apps seem to redo what Alta Vista tried to do back then. Alta Vista is one of the early search tool on the net. Now its bungkus already. So if google manages to ace this app then they are proving that previous ideas that didn’t make it can still be feasible. Basically the Google Desktop search will make it easier for you to find stuff on your pc. Ok maybe its not such a big deal. Unless you organize your stuff like yours truly there ll be a time where a certain document was misplaced. To make matters worst the stuff your looking for is not actually visible. It maybe in an email format or maybe in a word format. This app will allow you to search your words doc, outlook, urls or favorites. All can be done really fast. Imagine you gotta a page showing the latest Christina Aguilera pic but you somehow forgot the url. Haaa that’s one example how this search app can help you.

More and more Google are challenging the likes of Microsoft and Yahoo with its sui generic approach. Going totally against the normal practice and actually make it happen. One example is its clean layout design. All the application may look simple or bland but each design, color used, text position and such are in fact carefully studied to enhance the user experience. I believe Google’s design is the way to go. Its simple yet easy for the users. The funny thing in Malaysia is that people still want the animations the so called interactivity. In my green experience interactivity here means animation and flash. They still can not grasp the idea that simplicity and ease of use is actually the better way to go. Just look at corporate websites abroad. They tired from all the flashy animations. Unless they re related to artsy design then you ll see animations. Commonly in entertainment and graphic design related websites and apps. But if its corporate or enterprise related you ll seldom see it. Well that’s Malaysia Inc for you.

Another funny fact is that back then, Google wanted to sell its app to Yahoo but they turned it down. I guess right now they can not shout Yahoo so much.
